My passport is great!
I've had it for a month and haven't had any issues. This is my 2nd WD portable hard drive. Easy to set up, just plug in and go! I have the older one from years ago but it is pretty full with pictures, so I got another and it works great, quickly, and efficiently. No discs or anything confusing. Make your folders and drag and drop! It is not super light, feels nice!

Installation Problems
Something fishy with installation. Would not install unless I agreed to share info. Then my antivirus kicked in and quarantined the install. I went to the WD-My Passport website to follow instructions for failure to install software. Tried their solutions and ended up contacting them via chat. Typed in my problem and the rep asked for access to my computer to fix the issue. I said no, thanks and good bye. I will return.

    External Hard drive
The external drive is fast and easy to hook up. It's small and use very little space. Very happy with it.

I HAVE MANY OF THEM. I NEVER TRIED ANY OTHER POSSIBILITY. SINCE I USE THEM MOSTLY FOR BACK UP I JUST BYE EVERY YEAR ONE OR TWO WITH GREATER CAPACITY. NO A PROBLEM AT ALL/ I JUST CONNECT THEM EVERY 3 MONTHS TO A PC. A FEW YEARS AGO ONE WAS SHOCKED FROM OFFICE TO MARMOR. iTS STILL WORKING WITH NO PROBLEM.

    Big memory. Low Price.
Big memory for big projects. I got this to store a large video project. It's a lot of memory-- and the price was right.

    Why install?
First. I had to install it on my computer which I had never had to do before with an external hard drive. Then it downloaded files, extracted files, got to install mode and never went farther. I tried many times with the same result. I returned it to a local Walmart store and they refunded to my credit card.

Needs reformatting for Windows XP or older
Great price compared to replacing the hard drive on my old passport which was only good for one drop. Hopefully I won't drop this one. It's interesting how a replacement parts cost more than a complete new item. One important thing that the instructions do not tell you is how to use it with an old computer running Window XP or other 32 bit Windows GUI. Old versions of Windows will not read this drive because it is formatted for the newer file system. The fix is simple but requires the use of another computer which is newer. You must download the reformatting software, wd quick formatter, from the Western Digital website and run it to easily reformat the drive with the proper file system for older versions of Windows. The reformatting is quick and easy but wipes out the ability to have a secure partition unless you add one yourself later. Now before someone cries that you shouldn't be running old operating systems here are a few reasons why people buy these drive to use with old computers: 1, to transfer files from their old computer to their new one. 2, to use with old computers which people need to run expensive software or hardware which can not run on newer systems and use these computers exclusively for that use.

Worked great for freeing up space!
Great little gadget that I used to free up some space on my computer. After that I was going to just use it as backup and had it plugged into a front port of my desktop but it was making my computer very very slow!!! So I just unplugged it for now and if I need it in the future I may try to plug it into a port in the back which may possibly work...???

    Very good, except....
This drive's quality is incontestable: it's capacious and substantial, and it reads and writes with satisfying speed. My only concern is that its connector is located well above its midline, and the included USB cord's plug flexes slightly when inserted. This is a bit disconcerting, and new to my experience; my slightly older and larger Passport has a tight, secure connector. Withal, this is a fine drive.

    Fragile piece of ____
This thing fell from knee height onto a carpeted floor and broke. Lost all data on it after losing data on a previous WD hard drive from age or heat build up three months prior. If you are thinking about buying this do not expect to be able to move it around unless you install it inside a shock resistant case because it will break like a piece of glass.

This item just did not want to appear on my PC. I have a friend who uses this brand extensively and was puzzled as to what the problem was. Returned and refunded.

    Problem from start
This WD and a WD 4tb are the only ones out of 8 external hard drive that had problems loading the drivers. I was able to get the drivers to final load on this one from online but not fully on the 4Tb This was unreliable at 1st. Sometimes being found when plugged into my computer or tv monitor and other times not. But lately it has been working better. I'm more hesitant with unplugging this one then my other brands, even the cheaper unknown brands, for fear this one might not be found when plug in again. A couple of the cheaper brands can be a bit temperamental also. While I'll keep it and it is working well at this time, No more WD brand for me! The deal breaker is the difficulty right from the start with its inability to load the drivers, which not even the cheapest other brands had any problems. This one was very low priced when purchased, but the 4tb I expected better but had same problem, which says it is a brand problem.
