Love it. even for myself.
This is a great fun way to teach anyone how to spell. So easy to use and easy to clean. Its sturdy has a flat surface and talks like the old one from the 70's 80's. Like a robot. It has 5 modes,( see photo) different word levels its for the ages 7 and up. Comes with 3 AA batteries included. Spelling word games and Challenge levels This will never go out of style. It's iconic electronic idea is great for the kids that love their electronics. And at the same time learning. Its just pretty cool. every kids or adult should have one.

Couldn't understand the voice prompt
Received from spark review This small and lightweight speak and spell offers a nice keyboard and few functions for learning the spelling of words. When we began to use the speak and spell, I realized I could not understand what the voice prompt was saying. A few words was not pronounced clearly and we got the answer wrong. The speak and spell does not record your voice after repeating the words. It prompts the user to spell the words and then it moves on to the next word. Do not recommend - small children will get frustrated not understanding the voice prompt which is not clear and unintelligible.

    Speak and Spell
    I received a Speak and Spell from Spark Reviewer in exchange for my honest opinion. As a kid, I had one of these and absolutely loved it. I'm glad to see some of our favorite toys come back so that our children and nieces and nephews can enjoy. My niece loves this. It teaches her how to spell words and it has a variety of activities on it. She play with it for hours.

    Memories of a great speller
    The Speak and Spell - The Original Spelling Computer is a beginners spelling tablet. It's easy to use. It has the same voice when your asked to spell words. My children love to guess how to spell the words but they are times that you can't tell what word is being asked to spell as frustration kicks in and lose interest. They loved the fact it was in the ET movie and childhood memories are great but it should have added a softer voice so words are clearer. Besides that, material is sturdy and it comes with the list of words your asked to spell and levels of harder words as a challenge. Ages 7 and up. Great for practice.

    Retro Speak and Spell
    Speak & Spell is back and it's just like I'd remembered...but that was a long time ago. It's one of the earliest computerized learning systems from the 70s & 80s, Speak & Spell was the first educational toy designed to help children learn to spell over 200 commonly misspelled words using a speech synthesizer. More like a robot and really outdated. There are a lot better programs on our tablet for spelling and learning. My 6 year old granddaughter was over it in about 5 minutes. It does have multiple play modes and challenge levels, but it was difficult for us to understand some of the words. Not flashy enough for kids today, I'm afraid. This says for ages 7 & up and that's probably about right. Includes 3 AA batteries. It is light weight and easly to carry. This Speak and Spell definitely has its limitations but might be good for some kids.

    Great learning game
    This is great for kids 5 and up, voice is boring though. There are better spelling games around on ipads and phones. But I like the idea it doesn't work with wifi. There are different difficulty levels. And a great resource to keep your kid busy and entertained.

    good learning tool and small enough to take along
    The speak and spell is great it has different settings for changing the levels of difficultly all the kids in the house can learn with it. It says seven years and up, I know my ten year old still found it helpful. They have fun taking turns to see who's the smartest, it's me tricking them, they are learning as they challenge each other and they can't wait for the mystery word. It comes ready to go it runs on AA batteries that is included when it arrives, I like when it requires batteries they actually start you off with a set. It has more than two hundred spelling words that should keep them busy for a long time. I guess I was a deprived kid I never had one when I grew up, so I can't compare to the eighties model, but I really think it's really a very good learning tool and it's small enough to take just about anywhere and easy to operate.

    Great for basic spelling
    This Speak & Spell is made by Texas Instruments, this toy has been around since the 80's and was very popular then and is still today. This bright red Speak & Spell has a handle for easy carrying around it has a on and off button and needs 3 AA batteries which is included. Now the voice is a synthesizer and does sound like a robot. This Speak & Spell has 5 different play modes, you have the Spell Mystery Word, Say It, Secret Code and Letter, this toy is very educational for you child, it's easy to use and fun to play with. The brightly colored buttons are easy to see and touch. I would recommend this for any child to use.

    Great learning toy
    It is so fun to be able to have my grandchildren play with a toy that I played with as a child. The Speak and Spell is a toy that I played with in the 80s and loved it. The Speak and Spell is great for learning words and spelling words. The Speak and Spell today is basically the same as the original speak and spell back in the 1980s that I actually used as a child. I like how this speak and spell has the same letter graphics along with the same sounds as it had back in the 1980s. The Speak and Spell will help my young grandchildren with their memory skills of spelling and creative thinking. I like how easy it is to clean the Speak and Spell as you just simply wipe it off with a wet cloth. Like most children's toys the Speak and Spell does require three AAA batteries. My grandchildren play with this Speak and Spell for at least an hour a day.

    Useful toy
    This seems to be useful and fun educational toy. It comes with batteries included which is a plus. I recommend this for kids who can already read some. There are a few different settings of play and you can challenge yourself to see if you can spell what it says. I don't think the kids will use this as much as their tablet or other means for looking up words but I think they'll play here and there. My 5 year old had no interest but 8 year old did.
