A HEARING PROTECTOR THAT DOES IT ALL IN COMFORT!
3M's new Peltor Sport Smart Tactical 500 Electronic Hearing Protector w/Bluetooth Wireless Technology is most definitely at the forefront of ingenuity and innovation! This hearing protector device is perfect for providing excellent protection when shooting whether you're indoors or outside. The advanced technology of the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 quickly analyzes the environment to reduce the noise and enhance the experience accordingly and it's all done while providing superior comfort with an adjustable headband and cushioned ear pads! In addition to that, the 'smart' technology behind this product allows you make & receive phone calls, stream music, as well as electronic voice guidance for instructional purposes! Added bonus...this electronic hearing protector also has a programmable auto shut-off and is compatible with most mobile devices and 2-way radios! It performs better than any hearing protector device that I've ever tried/used. When you factor that in with the comfort, as well as the Bluetooth technology, it just doesn't get any better than that! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Poor Headband and Earmuff Mount Design
I bought this product 2/21/18. I wear these daily in an Fabrication Facility. I was really dissatisfied with the comfort of the Headband and ear cups. Ordered aftermarket products to subdue these issues. In November after wearing these for 40+ hours a week the mounts for the Ear Muffs failed. And have gotten progressively worse over time. Now they are to the point where it doesn't hold pressure on to your head. I wish you had replacement parts available for the ear muffs mounts

    Foam pad early breakdown
I purchased these for occasional trap shooting. They were stored inside my house when not in use. The vinyl cover is very thin and developed tears in a very short period of time and finally came apart completely. I've had much lower cost eat muffs for significantly longer time with no issues. I paid more money for these with an expectation of better performance. These muffs were well cared for and lightly used, very disappointed.

Broke in same spot as other reviews reported!
Bought the Tactical Sport 500 to replace another set of Peltors (Sport 100) that broke in the same spot on the headband that many others have reported, thinking that the more expensive model would have solved this problem. I love the noise reduction, love the comfort, love the ability to communicate clearly with my students while wearing them, and wear them several days a week for much of the day in my profession as a firearms instructor. However, they broke in exactly the same place again! The plastic piece that connects the headband to the ear cup failed and the cup no longer seals. So now they're useless. And I haven't even had them that long. Come on, Peltor, listen to your customers and fix this!

    Great design.
The Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Electronic Hearing Protector was given to me from 3M to test and review. This is definitely my go to product for hearing protection. It cuts down on sound a lot and also very comfortable and lightweight. The ear padding is good and the headwear is not bulky. It has clear sound and very durable. One thing that could improve would be the plastic that coats the padding. I can see it eventually cracking in the future as it reminds me of what is used on other headsets. So far it has been fantastic. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

    Sound Reduction Every time
The Peltor Sport Tactical 500 SMART Electronic Hearing Protector With Bluetooth Wireless Technology delivers sound reduction performance every time. I put these Hearing Protectors to the test in several different scenarios. As I volunteer to evaluate products for 3M, and the company Recently sent me a free sample, I felt it necessary to test these in several scenarios. Forgive me if this is longer. The first test was fit test. I have tried several other over the ear hearing protectors in the past and they have all been hard to adjust. pinched my ears, or only worked when an actual gunshot went off. With these I was able to open the package and put them on with no complicated adjusting. Also these fit comfortably over my ears ad had no pinch points. Let me point out the fact I have larger ears than most so the fact these fit with no pinching was a major check mark. These do not flop around on y head or move. hardly at all a major plus for me. The only negative and what prevents me from giving a five star rating is that these are heavy. Lighter than some but have some weight to them right out of the box you notice the weight and once you add the 2 AA batteries they only get heavier. They Top out at 14.9oz. Perhaps the Rechargeable battery pack might be lighter. Next was the series of tests I put these through and different scenarios. The first was the conversation test. I had these on outside talking to my kids and around the house speaking with my wife. I could hear everything they said and never had to ask them to repeat themselves. Hate to say it but I probably hear them better with them on than with out. Next I took my hammer and hammered some nails and just pounded the heck out of a board the sound was reduced and I never had ringing sensation or concern about the noise. Next I took these to the local indoor/outdoor gun ranges and fired 50 rounds of my 7MM and 9MM. I was so impressed at the sound suppression and consistent performance. I was able to fire and them speak clearly with those next to me with no switches or anything to change back and forth. Also they never got in the way of the rifle either. An isue I have ran into with several other headsets. The final test was with the Bluetooth. I was able to easily connect to my phone and have music playing and then fire my rifle and the sounds were on mark, the music did not cut out and the noise of the shots had no effect on hearing the music. I was amazed. Don't mistake these for a high end music headphone but they do connect well and sound good, but after all these are for noise reduction not HiFi music. All in all If I were to be in the market for these I would certainly out these at the top of my list. They fit well and deliver on performance. the fact they connect via Bluetooth is a huge bonus. They pair well via Bluetooth and the controls are easy to use. Outside the weight issue these are hard to beat. I would certainly recommend these to friends and family. Designed to fail
The Good: The sound suppression, Bluetooth, etc work well. Good battery life, voice notifications on status changes (on, off, Bluetooth connect, low battery.) The Meh: Comfort needs improvement. Spring for the HY80 Peltor Camelback Gel Sealing Rings. Don't even try the original ones. Note that even these take some custom fit work. The headband will wear you out. Get a headband cover. The Bad: They're fine for occasional use, but a couple times a week (for 18 months for me), they're gonna break. In the attached photo The Cap holds the wire frame to the headband. The frame pushes up on the bottom and pushes down on a plastic tab in the cap. This keeps the ear cup from swinging all the way out and allows the headband to press the ear cup to your head. Eventually, that plastic tab will will bust out. The wire frame will then push on the underlying headband base. This force now will split the cap off the base, breaking two tabs on the base under that cap. (These tabs are not structural but provided dampening on the ear cup movement.) The ear cup will then swing all the way out and compromise the seal. Enough epoxy and they can be saved. It's just more time and effort into making, and keeping, these useful.

Great product, headband could be better
I first saw these at SHOT 2018 and got my pair a few months later. They are small when folded, yet offer 26 DB NRR, which is pretty good for how small these are. My range has noisy fans and these muffs don't seem to amplify white noise while allowing me to clearly hear voices. The work well to reduce the report of just about every caliber, including 357 magnum. As others have pointed out, the headband could use some more padding. I am bald and the band leaves a mark in my head that lasts for hours.

    Good, but not durable
I purchased this pair of earmuffs in January of 2018. I wear these for 10-15 hours a week (at most) at work as a range officer and firearms instructor. This week, as I was putting them on, plastic pieces fell from inside the headband. I was very happy to recommend this product to customers and coworkers until now. I am surprised and incredibly disappointed that these failed after such a short time, especially given the price of the item. I've attached photos as well.
