Anticlimactic At Best
The whole process took a little bit too long for my 4 year old so this is probably more for older kids who understand that things take time to dry. First you had to mold your volcano and let it dry. The mold does not snap together very easily. Then you paint your volcano and let it dry. The paint provided was awful. The tubes were cheap and one even burst open on us. Finally a few days later you get to make it erupt. You mix some powders, put a little in your volcano and poor in some water. The volcano is very small, not even 12 inches tall. If you're hoping it bursts out of the volcano, you're in for a let down. It just fizzes up and dribbles over the sides. Even my four year old was like, was that it? I thought at least initially it would fire up a bit. If you want to use it as a learning tool for your kids it is very mediocre and the boring conclusion will leave your kids feeling like it was a waste of time. Also the coloring they put in the lava mix stains so make sure you do it outside or on a surface you dont care about. It washed off my patio easily. You can reuse the volcano and it teaches you how to make the lava mix at home which is nice. I dont think I'd waste the time to do it again unless for some reason my son asks me to. All in all I'm glad I didnt pay for it because I would have been annoyed, even if it was $5, thats still steep for what it is. You can probably look up how to make a cool one online with common household stuff. Dont waste your time/money.

Not able to form the volcano
Got this to do with my 6 year old. The mold was hard to put together and the popsicle stick when wet was so flimsy and hard to use. As soon as we mixed up the plaster it immediately got hard as we were pouring it into the mold. We tried pushing it down but it was already solid. It was also supper warm to the touch I had to put away and gave it two days to fully dry. Unfortunately we didnt get to do the experiment part because the cup at the top of the volcano where you are suppose to pour your chemicals was not completely formed. The reading material and the rock samples were cool. I still let him paint his volcano. I would say if you get this to do with your child you mix it and pour that sucker into the mold before all the plaster clumps break down. ( I had made a plan and laid everything out so we could just mix, pour

    Fun
Used this for a school project. A little time consuming, as you poor the ceramic and need to wait days to dry. Was fun for the kids to watch the eruption, but I thought it was less exciting. Was expecting more, but for safety reasons, I was glad it was on the smaller scale.

My son and I were pleased!
Loved this product! I bought it for my 5yo son and I. It was really easy for me to make and assemble. The plaster volcano came out very nice that we could use it again! The eruption mix was anticlimactic but they have alternative methods for erupting, I suggest trying those as well. It is a great and easy solution to older kids needing a science fair project.

Item arrived smashed in a plastic bag
Item was shipped in a white waterproof bag. It arrived smashed and Walmart has not responded to 3 requests for a replacement. I would like a response but am guessing there will be none. I know I can take it back to a physical store but ordered online to avoid potential exposure to Covid in a store setting. I have not had any problems with other orders that were shipped in boxes but a bag left this item open for smashing in transit.

Learning can be a little messy
My daughter (7 years old) saw this in the mail and has barely been able to contain her excitement until we had a weekend and time to do this activity. It is a little messy, but many science activities are. The directions are clear and the process was fun for my 7 year old any my 14 year old who “helped.” I like that it is multiple steps over time. I would purchase Nat Geo kits in the future.

    Hot mess fun
My 6yr old son really liked making the volcano he just didn't care for the drying process which took a little over a day and you do have to read the instructions carefully to ensure that you get the liquids to actually stay inside the volcano and not leak out (that's the messy part). I do think my nephew who's 9 a few years older than my son would really benefit more on the educational aspect of this toy so I would certainly consider buying this as a gift for one of my friends or family members kids.

    So much fun
The directions are clear and easy to follow. 7 yr. Old needed help assembling the mold. We dried the volcano in the oven for 2 hrs. She loved painting the volcano. The eruption process Was awesome. I highly recommend adding the dish soap suggested in the hints. I will try the other nat. geo. Kits. The only thing not included is water.
