5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser08/25/2021The TRUTH about this mattressThis mattress is specifically made as a sofa bed pull out replacement mattress. It must be 4.5 inches thick in order to be folded back into the sofa itself. Measure your old sofa mattress first, to see what size you need. My old mattress was a full size, and also was only 4 inches thick. So I ordered the full size replacement. Upon opening the new mattress, it is compressed flat and rolled up for shipping. Once it's completely unwrapped it will plump up to its exact size within 24 hours. The is absolutley NO SMELL, other than the slight scent of the new foam. The instructions say to let the mattress fluff up and air out for a day or so, before using it. This is common sense. The foam is of a high quality, but of course it's support is just as much as you would expect to get from a 4.5 inch thick mattress on a sleeper sofa frame. The mattress has a cloth zip off cover that can be washed. But its best to protect the mattress with an additional mattress cover, in case of spills, etc. If you are a heavy or bigger person, you obviously need a thicker foam/coil spring mattress to support your needs, as well as an actual bed with a box spring or platform. Logic being that a 4.5 inch foam mattress is not supportive for a heavier person. I bought this mattress to replace an old mattress in an old sleeper sofa. The mattress is firm enough, dense enough, and serves the purpose for what it was intended to be used for. The mattress arrived in a box, in clean and sanitary packaging. For the cost of this mattress the quality is well worth it. If you expected more, then you have to buy for a more expensive mattress to suit your physical needs. I am very happy with my purchase. There were no strange odors. It was amazing how small it was when opened and it plumped up just like it said it would. I found the best price for identical mattresses on Walmart and have not been disappointed. I am considering purchasing it again for another bed in our houseboat.Lori

It was under 3" at the top and bottom, and the sides were a hair over 2 1/2". I contacted the manufacturer who sent me a replacement that started expanding the minute I took it out of the plastic wrapper. If you buy this mattress, don't buy it from Jet. They must have old or defective stock. Customer service did volunteer to replace it, but the process was a little complicated, involving the carrier coming to box it up. The manufacturer simply sent me a new one and suggested I donate the old one to a shelter or something, which is complicated in NYC, but I will try.Katherine R
