Cool features!
I recently purchased this portable AC unit in preparation for the unbearable heat of the California Summer. So far, it works like a charm! My husband is more of a tech person so he really enjoys all the cool features this AC has to offer. I'm usually the person that gets frustrated with tech, but even this ac is easy for me to control which is awesome. It cools my entire house within minutes. And it's not as loud as other ac units which is a plus. I especially enjoy the timer feature where it turns off by itself because, let's face it, we all forget to turn things off after a while. It's unique look is also a great touch. The last AC I owned had the vent exposed which wasn't too great because it would collect dust fast or there was a rick if things accidentally falling into it, but this one has a cover that opens/ closes the vents when the machine is on/off. It also moves up and down as the machine is on so that it spreads the cool air around the area (and faster) instead of just shooting it in one direction. And I can't forget about the coolest feature so far- it connects to WiFi and your phone!! Definitely worth every penny! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

NOT 14,000BTU / 500 SQ FT
The description for this is not accurate. It is really 10,000 BTU for 450 square feet. We feel we may have overpaid for what we received. The model number on the box matches what we ordered, so we're pretty sure they sent us the right thing.

    Dehumidifier function is worthless
The dry function is worthless. I had hoped this would be an air conditioner/dehumidifier but the dehumidifier is really the compressor turned on low.

    Exceptional little unit
Bought this unit to cool down a dental office air compressor and water filtration storage room where everything shut down when the room hit 120⁰. We have not had an issue since installing this unit. Built a custom chimney to exhaust heat to existing ceiling fan. Added a drain hose so condensation runs right to an existing floor drain. Worked like a charm. Rooms stays a lot cooler now and no more issues of shutting down. Highly recommend this machine to anyone in need of dropping temperatures in a specialized room or area.

Love, Love, Love the Style and Comfort!
After the heat spell in late June, my twelve year old portable air conditioner was no longer working and I started researching purchasing a new one. I know about the quality of LG products, so when I looked at this air conditioner and read the reviews I decided this was the one for me! I'm very pleased with my purchase. The air conditioner was easy to set up, works perfectly, fits just right in the space I needed to put it, and is very attractive. Purchasing this has been making the rest of my Summer a very pleasant one!

    So far, so good
The unit seems to work quite well, quickly cooling my office and it is not terribly loud. It seems to weigh quite a bit more than noted on the specs. What I hadn't thought of is that my old house has a sill of about 5 inches between the actual window and the storm/screen. I had to get creative and attach an extender so the water would not collect between the windows. This wouldn't have been an issue with a traditional window unit and wasn't something I ever would have thought about beforehand.

Excellent cooling. Bad smell. Lacking features.
I've been using this portable AC for almost a year now and felt it was a good time to review it. Pros: +This AC does its job and does it well, and if that's all you're looking for then this is the AC for you. +The auto-evaporation it requires very little maintenance other than cleaning out the filter twice a year or so (or more under heavy usage), which is a simple task itself (two dust screen filters snap on and off easily). +It has an app so you can control the AC from your phone, though the app is rather terrible (more on that later). Cons: -The smell. I've had encounters with three different ACs of this same model and they all produce a nasty musty smell when not cooling (only fan is on). The first AC which leaked so I returned, my replacement AC that I use now, and my brother who bought the same AC recently nearly a year later. Suffice to say, the smell is a standard feature to this model. Fortunately this is not a deal breaker, as there are sprays available to mitigate the smell, but the fact the customer has to pay to fix this issue on their end is definitely a con. It is possible to get by without an odor blocker by setting the temperature extremely low so that the room temp never reaches its target, ensuring the coolant is always working, but that is assuming you're fine living in extreme cold. -The app is rather bad. Though non-intrusive, it does have ads on the main screen. And the app itself is prone to undergoing maintenance several times a year becoming unavailable for a day. Also the app has rather slow communication as any command to your AC will cause the app to buffer. To further pile on, LG Thinq does not play well with third-party apps. It is possible to connect Homebridge but it cannot set Sleep mode on it. -It is rather loud. Granted at low fan speed, it is quieter than many other ACs on the market, but not by a significant margin. And what makes this truly grating is the fact that it CAN be quiet. If you set the AC to sleep mode it will turn the fan below its lowest setting (Extra Low if you will) which makes it significantly quieter, especially when the coolant is off then it becomes downright silent. Unfortunately, you HAVE to set it to sleep mode in order to take advantage of this hidden feature. Now you might be thinking "So what? Then I'll just set it to sleep mode all the time". The biggest problem with this idea is that this AC has a "feature" that gradually increases its own temperature the longer it stays in sleep mode (up to 4 °F). Again, there is a workaround: set the temp. an extra 4 degrees lower to make up for this difference, but again the fact that we have to work around this AC's so-called "feature" is ridiculous. It would have been incredibly easy for the designers to add another fan speed (Extra Low or F0), but instead they gated it behind a "feature" and have us, the customer, work around them. LG, if we have to work around your feature then its not a feature, its just bad design. Conclusion: This is a good AC in terms of cooling, but the longer I use it the more aggravating I find it. When I first turned it on I was amazed at its low maintenance and cooling capabilities. Then I found out about the disgusting smell, so I had to purchase an odor blocker. Then I find out the Extra Low fan setting is gated behind Sleep mode, so I started always setting Sleep mode whenever I turned on the AC. Then I find out during Sleep mode the AC increases its own temperature, so I have to manually change my own temperature everyday and set it 4 degrees lower to make up for the difference. This AC had the potential to be one of the best portable ACs on the market, but as it stands now it is a good AC dragged down by its terrible features and bad smells.

    Quietest AC I ever owned
Very quiet. Bought for my home office and it sits about 8 feet away. Noise is quiet enough that it can't be heard on video meetings and to me it isn't much louder than just having a fan on. Great news as noise level was the main reason I picked this model. It also cools off the room very quickly. Great product.

    quiet, well designed, sleek, smart
DISCLOSURE: I've owned this unit less than a week (my friend owns one as well, which I helped set up) so I can't comment on the long-term reliability, only functionality compared to other units I've owned or used. 【TL;DR】 This is about as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners - and that's quite good. 【INTRO & BACKGROUND】 I've owned several "window shaker" type air-conditioners over the last decade, and one other portable. Window models are slightly more efficient (because the "hot section" sits entirely outside) but are extremely inconvenient to install unless your building is designed with a port for them. Many allow "street noise" through, nevermind being rather noisy themselves. Most portable A/C units use generic "guts" and just replace the outer cosmetic shell. This LG is different, which I'll explain in the pros and cons below. I'm going to start "from the ground up" because LG's design team really hit a home-run with this one. 【FEATURES & PROS+】 • The "smooth gliding caster wheels" are extremely durable, easy-rolling and swiveling - many portables use cheap, "office chair" type wheels that bend, break, and clog with hair. • There's a drain plug centered near the bottom of the unit and connected to a 2-pint water tank. The device evaporates water through the exhaust hose but the tank acts as a buffer if it can't remove enough. The device will shut-down if the tank fills up and will send a warning, including one via the smartphone/tablet app, to empty the tank before resuming operation. • the included vent panels store in a slot built onto the back of the unit - this is a MASSIVE improvement over every other portable on the market where you need extra storage space (or a roll of duct tape) to store accessories • the included window vent panels are thick, reinforced, high quality, non-brittle plastic (ABS or PVC perhaps?) and there are enough of them to cover wide windows. In fact, in my apartments with average windows, there was enough paneling to install in TWO separate windows. I cut an extra port in one of the panels with a Dremel routering jig (see pics) and now I don't have to move the exhaust panel, just the unit. • the exhaust hose points VERTICALLY from the back of the unit - another massive improvement over other brands in which the hose exits horizontally - less clearance is needed, and the hose stores right on the unit • dual-inverter compressor - in short: the compressor motor can run at different speeds which makes it not only more energy efficient but MUCH quieter, especially on start up. Instead of the *CLUNK...RATTLE* on compressor start/stop that gives box units the "window shaker" nickname, this one quietly spools up and down, making it great for bedrooms. • smartphone/tablet app monitoring & control - you can check room temperature, check the unit's status, and fully control it from anywhere in the world. Once connected to the network, the unit can be controlled via app even when you're away from home. (you may need the geeky-kid-next-door to make sure your home network doesn't block this) • app allows for scheduled start and stop, as well as delayed ON/OFF 【QUIRKS & CONS-】 • the remote control is anemic and very sensitive to direction - I've practically given up on it in favour of the smartphone app, and the on-unit control panel (no biggie - I think LG assumed people would use the smart app or panel and the remote was an after-thought) It does stand upright, and comes with a wall bracket, though. • The app is slightly quirky: there's a lot of wasted space that results in having to scroll, and click "expand" tabs. I'd like to see this improved by having all controls on the same screen - simple sliders or radio buttons instead of MASSIVE sections would solve this. • Unit requires a 2.4GHz WiFi network with WPA/WPA2 security (doesn't support WEP, not that you should be using WEP security in 2019). Once connected, the app will find it no matter where you are. (5GHz WiFi or on cellular data) • No ECO/AUTO mode - HOWEVER... the "DRY" mode seems to function exactly as you'd expect an ECO/AUTO mode to: it still uses the compressor to cool the air/dehumidify, but runs the fan on low only, then shuts the entire unit off when the target temperature is reached. 【Conclusion】 Despite the quirks, all of the pros of this unit (smart accessory storage, wheels, low noise level, smartphone monitoring & control anywhere) make it a winner for me, and my friend who owns the same unit. While on my bus commute home, from my smartphone, I can check my apartment temperature, command the air-conditioner to power on, and set a target temperature. I get home and the apartment is habitable. An aside: the smarts and dual-inverter, quiet compressor in this unit are available in LG window models, as well as split systems. If your home has a port for a window type, that might be something to consider. Top marks - this is as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners.
