Easy to Use!
My favorite feature of this product is the roll-top door. The simple but clever design eliminates the possibility of injury caused by rubbing against a hot open door while removing food from the oven. My older children can safely practice independence in the kitchen while using this product. I love that I can easily cook or reheat smaller portions. When outdoor temperatures heat up, I will continue to have the benefits of an oven without heating up my house. I have had no problems reaching product recommended cooking temperatures or cooking times. A feature that surprised me was how easily the oven rack and pan slide outward. It couldn't get any easier to turn-over or remove food. Another nice feature is a 30 minute timer with auto shut off. The timer seemed loud at first, however, I've come to appreciate the reminder! I'm extremely satisfied with the value I've received from this product! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Doesn't Last!!
Starts off great. 7 months later you'll be shopping for another. It starts taking way too long just to toast the morning bagel! An expensive dud!!

    Lift Up Oven Door
The oven gets hot all around the outside of the unit while cooking and the heat can be felt several feet away from the unit.

Finally, A Toaster Oven I Love!
Buying a toaster oven can be a real headache, for every few favorable reviews there is one that declares the item to be dangerous, terrible performance, etc. After buying a few over the years and agreeing with many of the criticisms in reviews I finally came to the point I just had to get one so took a chance on this one and lo and behold, we love it! Takes up little space, love the roll up door, and it really bakes and reheats beautifully. Like all ovens it will get hot, duh, so when I use it I just pull it away from the wall on the counter so the heat has room to dissipate. Highly recommend this one!

Compact Size and Versatility Made it Perfect
I had barely unpacked my toaster oven and was about to read the instructions when my college-age daughter came home from school and saw what I was doing. I also happened to have dough rising at the time, dough for some dinner rolls. She was obviously interested in the machine, and I figured it was for her very modest apartment near the school, about a hundred miles from home. I didn't let on, but suggested we give it a try on the homemade rolls. The three dials (Temperature, Function: Bake, Broil or Toast, and Timer) are a virtual guide to using the machine by themselves. Simply paying attention to the dial settings allows anyone to master the machine while using it on the job. It is quite compact and the door which opens by sliding up adds to its space-saving quality. The homemade rolls became our test case. We used the baking setting, of course, and the result was near bakery quality rolls. Unfortunately, my daughter managed to convince me that the convenience, compact size, and flexibility of the oven made it something she needed in her small quarters more than I did. It went off to college with her, but I did get an email thanking me for it very much, and letting me know how much of a help it was to her busy college student life. So, it not only serves its baking function well, it also makes a great gift that will keep your children, particularly college student children, in your graces. Of course, I told her she was more than welcome. Yes, the compact size and versatility made it perfect, but not for me! She's got it, and I'm back in the market. So Easy to Use!!
I love this oven! It is now summer and it is perfect for not heating up the whole kitchen. It is easy to use. The roll up door makes it easy to put food in and out!. I've cooked bacon, cookies, chicken and some squash this week. The stainless looks great with my other appliances and it doesn't take up too much room. Check this one out-- you will be glad you did. Give the Kitchen Oven a Vacation
This is good size toaster oven. Large enough to be useful and save having to fire up your big oven. I always thought it a waste of energy to preheat and put 8 cinnamon rolls in a huge oven for 14 minutes. In fact, this toaster oven did this in a round 10" pan with no pre-heating and they came out just as well. This saved time and energy. The toaster oven has 3 control knobs. 1) Bake temperature up to 450 2) Bake, Broil, or Toast, 3 position switch 3) Low tech mechanical timer up to 30 minutes. (tick, tick, tick, and more ticking until the ding) I found all the markings on the 3 controls to be difficult for me to read unless I catch the light at just the right angle. It has black lettering on stainless. In the future, I would pay more for a digital display and timer, since my eyes are not what they use to be. There is a light and dark icon on the timer control around the 4 minute mark. There is a note to turn the timer past 10 before returning it back to toasting time. That seems to be a kick back to 50 years ago that I thought was long gone in this digital age. But it works. I picked up one of those "Is it Delivery or Digiorno" 12" pizzas. It fit in fine due to the curved extension on the backside of the oven. I followed the directions of 20 minutes at 400 and it came out perfect. Tasted great. Doing this pizza makes you appreciate the roll-top door. Not only for getting it into the oven but taking the hot pizza out is so easy because you can drop it straight down in front of the oven, preventing mishaps. I made an English muffin which I only wanted toasted on the split side. The directions for doing this in the user guide are wrong, giving the same directions as for toast. Instead I set the control to "Broil" at maximum temperature and it came out a perfect golden brown in about 8 minutes. I was able to fit two existing full size cupcake trays for a total of 12 cupcakes at one time. They were done perfect in 20 minutes, no pre-heating. I can also fit two full size casserole dishes. After I buy a 9"x11" pan, I plan on doing cakes also. I grilled hot dogs right on the wire rack with the broiler tray slid in underneath and they were done quickly in the time it took me to prepare my hot dog buns and microwave a side dish. Always line your broiler tray with tin foil because it tends to stain easily. Frozen stuffed clams also came out great just using the wire rack. The rack and broiler tray slide in and out of the two positions with little effort. I would have liked one more position. The crumb tray works nicely also. I find the amount of heat generated for a countertop appliance of this size to be normal and safe. The amount of countertop real estate used is justified by its ability to fit items you wouldn't expect of a toaster oven. This toaster oven earns Its position on the kitchen counter. Ideal concept! Love it!
As you can see from my photos, I don't have much counter space for appliances. This toaster oven is perfect for me as the door opens up, rather than down taking up precious prep space. For it's small "foot print", this appliance is ideal for pizza, re-heats, and I've even made cupcakes in it without heating up my whole kitchen using a full size oven. The controls are easy to see and use. Using this oven and the controls is pretty straight forward. And the oven is sturdy enough that I would highly recommend this oven for every day use. Nice inexpensive toaster oven
I've had this couple weeks now and it's a nice toaster oven, but small. I do like it, but wish it also had convection feature, I'll get that feature next time I get one. It's perfect size for 1 or 2 people, but too small for a big family. Perfect for single people or those in college. So far it has worked great on everything I've cooked in it. Definitely Earns Its Counter Space!
Frankly, I gave up on toaster ovens quite awhile ago, when I couldn't fit anything in that Frankly, I gave up on toaster ovens quite awhile ago, when I couldn't fit anything in that I actually wanted to eat, and had many burnt fingers to prove it! The Hamilton Beach roll-top toaster oven sure changed my mind about all that! It is roomy, attractive, and offers many cooking options, including toast, bake, and broil. I was disappointed, however, that "my model" did not come with the convection option, since it was listed in the product description I received. For my first venture, I made toast which came out perfectly, and baked eggs with herbs and cheese in ramekins. These came out very well with two eggs in each ramekin, baked at 375 degrees for fifteen minutes, with one turn halfway through. Since the dishes get very hot, in the future I would take them out a minute or two sooner, as they continue to cook while in the hot ramekins. They did slip right out onto the plates with just a light non-stick spray of the dishes before baking. I baked double chocolate cookies and was very pleased with the results. In just ten minutes they came out perfect--moist and chewy, but not undercooked. The baking pan cleaned up easily. Our dinner menu consisted of baked potatoes and small steaks. The large potatoes took an hour at 400 degrees and were well done, but since we like them browned and crispy on the outside, I will push the temp up to 450 for at least part of the baking time next time. The steaks went very well and were perfectly done in just eight minutes. Lastly, I made the Reuben Casserole from the Hamilton Beach toaster oven recipes and it was a huge success. Because neither of us care for thousand island dressing, I substituted cream of mushroom soup and it was delicious. It came out brown and toasty in 40 minutes. I am very impressed with the convenience and versatility of this toaster oven, and I'm definitely convinced it earns its counter space in my kitchen! Things I like: Actually, I LOVE the roll-top door! This is one of those things that screams, "Why didn't somebody think of this before???" It makes it so convenient to reach inside the oven to turn things, or put them in or take them out, and frees up counter space for plates and utensils. The toast option produces perfect toast every time, evenly toasted on both sides without turning. I am so impressed with this function that I am ready to permanently banish the toaster! Bagels went equally well and came out crispy on the outside, while staying nice and soft inside. The oven is so roomy that I am able to fix a realistic amount of food in regular sized dishes, without having to buy and store an entire new set of things. The controls are accurate and easily accessible, and the timer is very accurate and has a nice loud bell. I also like the fact that the timer has a convenient stay-on option. Things I don't like: I was surprised by how hot the outside of the appliance gets, and how much heat it throws. I could not find anything in the instruction manual telling me how far away from anything it should be--just to keep it away from combustibles. I would like some specific guidelines on the amount of room it requires for adequate circulation, and if it could damage walls, backsplashes, counters, etc. The cord comes out of the right back and my outlet is on the left. The cord is long enough, but is difficult to keep from touching the back of the oven. I finally ended up winding it over another appliance to contain it. Not ideal, but does work--better than the twist-tie I first tried which made it clumsy and unsightly. I would also like to see a basic recipe booklet included with the toaster oven. I realize I can go to the internet and download wonderful, gourmet recipes from the Hamilton Beach website (and I do) however, a few basics--a simple bagel recipe, eggs, something other than a frozen pizza would be nice. It would serve as a handy "quick-start guide" and bolster confidence to move on from the basics with great success. And if not that, at least a chart showing approximate cooking times and temperatures for popular foods would be helpful. Liz 17 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
