He can't put it down!
The interesting thing for me was watching my son build this toy, then play with it, then take it apart to reconfigure it and get new design patterns. The motor can be assembled into the toy four different ways for four different artistic patterns, and the pens can be adjusted into infinite varieties. He really likes this -- he calls it his "Artbot"

Doodlers
This was more involved than I anticipated as far as building it. It took about an hour to put it together. Mostly straight forward with one slightly unclear step in the directions. Only required a screwdriver. I think a child would definitely need to be 8 and up to do it, as it required some pretty good fine motor skills and understanding to assemble. Once assembled, I put the three markers in and set it on a large sketch pad paper and it drew circular patterns. It was kind of fun to play with the angle of the markers and watch the designs change. It didn't knock my socks off and my kids were amused enough to watch it for a while, but didn't really want to participate. You could adjust it to make smooth or more wiggly lines. It can go in circular or straight directions. It also said you could take the markers off and just set it flat on the floor and watch it scoot around. That didn't work that well. It moved sort of slow just from vibrations. Overall it was kind of loud and annoying, not that wild of movements or designs, and difficult for kids to assemble or understand how to use. Wouldn't recommend for my kids, maybe if you have a budding engineer or artistically inclined kid.

    Could be challenging
I gave this to my 8 year old and he said it is not that easy . He found it difficult. He definitely needed help. It also need fine motor skills. You have to hold the bolt with one hand and tighthen the scew. It has too many small pieces and you really need to focus hard to finish this. This is a gender neutral toy though. One can use colored pens or markers with this kit. There are extra "pen holders" included with this kit, so you can draw with more than the 3 markers at one time. The kit comes with 3 colored markers and some paper, but you can add more. Some kids might need a helping hand and others can do it on their own. You need little patience to finish it.

    My son loves this!
The Fun Mechanics Kit Doodling Robot is a great learning toy. My 11yo son thinks that this robot is the “coolest thing”! It took us about 20 minutes to put the robot together as there are tiny screws and we kept dropping them!!!lol. This robot requires 1 AA battery and a small Phillips screwdriver to put together. The instructions were pretty good as they had written instructions and then numbered pictures to follow. Once everything was put together we had a lot of fun watching the robot draw circles and lines. I think this is really a great learning tool because you can adjust the pens to see how this affects what the robot draws, how large the circles are, etc. Great cause and effect.:). If you get tired of drawing with the robot, you can remove the pens and twist the feet down and it will slide across any smooth surface like a spider or crab. This is incredible bang for your buck. Definitely not for young kids to put together, but they can play with it. We used typing paper, but this would be awesome on butcher block paper, or maybe light wrapping paper.

    Cool Robot
This is a very cool little robot. My kids are fascinated by it. They “helped” me put it together. It's easy to put together as a 3 pen robot, but it also has two extra holders that can be used for additional markers, pens, or colored pencils. The instructions were clear and all of the materials were included (lots of small nuts, bolts, and screws with one extra of each). We've tried the robot with it at the top of the markers (makes it draw faster) and with the robot lower down on the markers (makes is draw slower). We haven't mastered the straight lines yet, but that's because my two can't stop making circles. My son loves to watch it move without the pens. It doesn't really glide like instructions say it should, but it moves a little. Overall, great little kit and fun to watch.

    Pretty cool!
The robot toy came with instructions - written and picture - that really worked for me as I was able to read the steps and then confer with the pictures to make sure that I was doing it right. I am not extremely handy with my hands so it took me an hour and a half to put the toy together. I work with kids so used this as an activity with one of my patients. He really loved the outcome!

    Fun robot kit.
The 4M Doodling Robot Science Stem Kit has many small pieces to put together. You will need a Phillips screwdriver that's not included to put robot together. You will also need a double A battery to make it work, also not included. I think the age requirements on the box might be a little low. It says for 8 years and over, but my 14 year old gave up and my husband had to finish it. Once put together it works really well and makes some pretty cool designs. If your child likes to create models that actually do things once finished this is probably for them. I would not suggest for very young children.

    Neat gadget
My 12 year old put this together since my daughter is too young, but she is definitely the one who is entertained by it. I think it's great for kids who like to “build” things but it may not be enough excitement for older children. It was easy to put together and requires one AA battery to function . The legs are adjustable, allowing you to change the shape of your circle. The markers included will work but are not high quality so I'll be getting more soon. If you lay the paper inside of a box you don't have to worry about any messes :)

    Nice kit
The 4M Doodling Robot Science Stem Kit Has plastic parts and metal screws. It requires a steady hand to assemble but is not that difficult. This is a nice little kit for a rainy day and could take about an hour to assemble and play with or longer if the child really likes to watch it scribble. Be advised that a large sheet of paper and an AA battery are required and not provided with the kit. Make sure the child watches the doodler and keeps it on the paper or you could be cleaning your surfaces. This kit was used as a break between classes in our homeschool and was enjoyed by a 14 year old- although he was more interested in the assembly than the doodling. Overall, it's a fun, whimsical gadget with decent directions. Parts are packaged in plastic pouches a easy to match to the parts list. The box shows good photos to inspire the assembler. Great activity for those who enjoy gadgets and building.

    Cool But A Little Complicated
My daughter is a child that is very creative. She is always making some type of project without instructions. It just pops out of her mind. When I saw this doodling robot kit, I just knew she would excel with this kit. This doodling robot kit comes with a LOT of pieces and an instruction booklet. My twelve-year-old daughter who is in the gifted program worked on this robot for an hour. She and I found a few discrepancies in the illustrations and instructions. The discrepancies were making the assembly of this robot a bit complicated and it frustrated my daughter quite a bit. She finally got it assembled and working. She was quite pleased with watching it draw circles and lines. The doodling robot has different adjustments that allow it to draw slower or faster. The doodling robot needs to be placed on a surface that has raised edges to keep it from falling off. My daughter covered a draw table with six sheets of white copy paper and did lots of adjustments to it. So, in the end she really liked the doodling robot. It is a bit noisy though. She was VERY excited when she saw that it made two concentric circles with two different color markers. She said, “It's pretty cool!”
